About regular session movers

The regular session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, and it's where the real volume — and the real moves — happen. A stock leading the gainers list on heavy volume is usually riding a fresh catalyst: an earnings beat, upgraded guidance, a contract, a sympathy move within a hot sector, or a technical breakout that's attracting momentum traders. The losers list is the mirror image, and it's just as useful — for spotting breakdowns, failed setups, and oversold bounce candidates.

Percentage move alone doesn't tell the whole story. A 30% move on a few thousand shares is noise; the same move on millions of shares with rising relative volume is a real event. That's why traders pair the gainers and losers list with volume, relative volume and the chart — to separate the durable trends from the one-bar spikes. The names that combine a large move, heavy volume and a clean technical pattern are where the highest-quality day-trade and swing setups come from.

StockSetups scans the entire ~12,300-name US universe in real time during the session and after the close, classifying setups into four ranked lanes with a trade plan on each. This public list shows the final standings once the 4:00 p.m. close is in (15-minute delayed while the session is still live); the live boards and the nightly scan are inside the app.

Frequently asked

What are the top gainers and losers today?

The stocks with the largest positive and negative percentage moves during today's regular session across the whole US market — measured from the prior close to the 4:00 p.m. ET close. This page ranks them with price, percent change and volume: the final standings once the session closes, and a 15-minute-delayed view while it's still live.

What makes a stock a top mover?

Usually a catalyst — earnings, guidance, news, an analyst rating change, a sector move, or a technical breakout — combined with above-average volume. The biggest, most durable moves tend to come on heavy relative volume rather than thin trading.

How can I find the best setups among the movers?

Look for a large move backed by heavy volume and a clean chart pattern near a key level. StockSetups does this automatically — it scans the full market and ranks setups into four lanes with an entry, stop and target on each.
