About premarket movers

Premarket trading runs from 4:00 a.m. ET until the 9:30 a.m. open. Volume is thin and spreads are wide, so a handful of orders can move a stock sharply — which is exactly why the premarket list is the first read of the day: it shows what the market is reacting to before everyone else is at their desk. Most premarket movers are responding to an overnight catalyst — an earnings beat or miss, raised or cut guidance, an FDA decision, an analyst upgrade, or a deal.

Treat the premarket move as a clue, not a conclusion. Gaps frequently fill or reverse in the first 30–60 minutes once regular-hours liquidity arrives, so the premarket leaderboard is best used to build a watchlist for the open rather than as a buy list. The names that hold their premarket gain into the regular session — especially on heavy volume — are the ones that tend to keep running.

This list is drawn from the same engine that powers the StockSetups Live Tape and Top Lists, which rank the entire US market in real time all session. The public snapshot here is delayed; the live, unfiltered boards — plus 35+ intraday alert types — are inside the app.

Frequently asked

What are premarket movers?

Stocks making the biggest percentage moves during premarket trading (4:00–9:30 a.m. ET), before the regular session opens. They're usually reacting to overnight news, earnings or guidance, and they set the tone for the trading day.

Why do stocks move so much in the premarket?

Premarket volume is far lighter than regular hours, so it takes fewer shares to move a price. That thin liquidity amplifies the reaction to overnight catalysts — and also means premarket moves can reverse quickly once the regular session opens.

Is this premarket list real-time?

It's a 15-minute-delayed snapshot of the StockSetups Top List. The live, real-time premarket board — ranking the full US market with no delay — is available inside the app.
